November 21, 2000

Dear Members and Friends of the IWRA:

I hope you had a wonderful summer (and early fall). The fall meeting this year has been scheduled and we are sure that it will be worth the wait. We have arranged for interesting program but I also want to encourage you to attend the morning business meeting. We have had increasing participation at the business meetings the last few years and I'd like to see this trend continue. An important item on the business agenda is the election of IWRA officers for 2001. Nominations for 2001 officers are Don Arvin, President; Jack Wittman, President Elect; Glendon Williams, Secretary; and Kathleen Fowler, Treasurer.

The topic of the fall meeting is "Solid Waste Management at the Landfill" and will include a tour of the Twin Bridges Landfill by Waste Management Incorporated on Wednesday, December 6. The meeting will take place at the Twin Bridges Lodge on the southeast side of Danville. There will be a presentation by Brad Eisenhart of WMI and a tour of the operation. The landfill show and tell will be followed by a presentation by Greg Overtoom of the Office of Land Quality at IDEM. Greg will describe the State's recent efforts to organize and manage the data generated by landfills in the state. There is no charge for the fall meeting and registration will take place at the door. Directions to Twin Bridges Lodge are on the other side of this announcement. Call (317) 745-2878 if you have trouble finding the lodge.

I want to thank Jack Wittman, Mark Basch, and Rosemarie Hansell for their help in organizing the program. Please call Jack Wittman at (812) 876-9399 if you have questions concerning the meeting. I look forward to seeing you December 6.

Sincerely,
Cyndi Wagner
IWRA President

AGENDA

10 am Fall Business Meeting
11:30 - 12:30 Lunch (on your own in Danville)
12:30 - 2:45 Site tour and discussion of facility, Brad Eisenhart of WMI
2:45 - 3:45 Presentation by Greg Overtoom, IDEM-OLQ

Directions to Twin Bridges Lodge from Indianapolis

  1. Travel west on U.S. Route 36 to Danville.
  2. Just east of Danville, turn south on Twin Bridges Road (formerly Shady Lane). UNFORTUNATELY, THE ROAD IS NOT MARKED AT THIS INTERSECTION. This intersection has a stoplight and a new Kroger store on the southwest corner. If you pass the city park you have gone too far.
  3. After about a quarter of a mile, Shady Lane merges with East Twin Bridges Road.
  4. Go under the big concrete railroad bridge, past the Twin Bridges office, and past the soccer fields on the right (on the west side of the road).
  5. Continue another 1/4 mile until you see a small "Twin Bridges Lodge" sign on the right side of the road. We will place an "IWRA Fall 2000 Meeting" sign at this intersection.
  6. The lodge is not visible from this intersection. Follow the gravel road a few hundred feet to the lodge.
